I’ve been into lip oils lately, this E.L.F. one is ok but not as glossy as I want. To be realistic, these lip oils are quite easy to wipe off so I don’t really find them extra hydrating compared to a thicker balm. The color Jam Session is also more on the sheer side. I surprisingly found a brand sold at Costco from glowiest – it came in a kit with a cute purse, and it’s actually pretty glossy! Only caveat is I am not sure how easy it is to buy outside Costco.

Perfect Fig – kind of an “older woman” color but I was obsessed with figs and didn’t want more red lipsticks for the time being. HahaTop: lightly applied | Bottom: fully applied
Unfortunately this is not the color for me, it has an odd purple cool tone that can be applied more naturally. Not sure if they’ll let me exchange it but definitely returning 😶. I love the packaging but it also has an odd fragrance that I dont love.

I passed by the makeup aisle, saw the Maybelline stand and immediately jumped on it. I used to love the Divine Wine lipstick bc it was a really vampy red (review here).
I was really excited about this color bc I am really into reds… However, you can tell the color is totally not red, esp compared to what I consider more raspberry reds in my collection
This is NOT crimson. Seems more of an ugly purply pink that I don’t like… I almost want to return this but I know they will just throw it away, esp amid this COVID-19 frenzie.
On the Maybelline website it says they added shea butter. I don’t look into lipstick formulas often due to the chemical names, but it seems like the new formula has lanolin oil, sesame seed oil, petrolatum and beeswax, all found in moisturizing products.
Personally, I never found the ColorSensational lipsticks drying, cremes or mattes. I am the type that only applies a thick lip balm at night, rarely during the day, and I don’t have issues with their lipsticks at all. The CS line are is of the best drugstore lipsticks for the price, so I’m not sure why they felt the need to reformulate. The biggest flaw for the ColorSensational line is there is an odor – I personally don’t mind it, but if you prefer fruity or pleasant fragrances in your lipstick… This ain’t it. Not sure why they can’t add some pleasant scents to drugstore lipsticks, I recall L’Oreal had a heavy plastic scent as well, which is why I never bought one of their bullet lipsticks (I did try their liquid lips though). The best lipstick fragrance I’ve tried is the YSL lipsticks (review here and here). Chanel is also nice but more perfume-y and depends on which lipstick you get (review here).
Packaging difference – as you can see the bottom silver part is wider, I think this will make it slightly easier to get the lipsticks in and out. There was no other color that really intrigued me from this line… Maybe one of the nudes (Almond Hustle). Truthfully, now that I swatched Crimson Race and the color doesn’t match the name, I need to be more careful about selecting shades from this range
My other ColorSensational lipsticks are quite old… But I still like them. If you don’t mind the fragrance, I think Maybelline makes one of the best lipsticks in the drugstore.
I rarely go to CVS or Walgreens for makeup so I don’t always catch the new drugstore trends, are there any that look interesting?
