CHANEL | Classic Medium Flap

If you’ve purchased other Chanel bags before, they usually come with a black “rougher” fabric dust bag. I guess the classic flaps have their own style of dust bags
There’s a pocket on the flatter side, I tuck the chain there
Caviar leather with silver hardware – I would want gold but it’s apparently rare. The black fabric is here to protect the leather

If you aren’t familiar with Chanel handbags, caviar is probably the most hardwearing compared to lambskin, goatskin, and other materials. Patent leather is also hard wearing but I was never a fan of the plastic look. My minis are lambskin and I do think they scratch rather easily, but if it’s a dark colored bag it’s not too bad.

Unlike the WOC, the inside zip pocket here is actually useless, it may fit a pen but I’m sure most ppl don’t want to stretch the leather.
Made in France. I have seen this maroon leather since 2015, but I want to say it’s been around since 2010… Don’t quote me
Double strap shoulder | elbow | shoulder strap | crossbody (fyi I am wearing higher waisted pants)

Crossbody is a tad short for my preferences but I think if you have a short torso it’s probably fine.

This is my first “classic flap” if you don’t count the minis (post here). I always wonder what if I had gotten it a few years ago when it was under $5k, but at the time (2017) $4400 was a lot to me. Currently, the medium classic flap is $6800… I got it right before 1/15/21 (recent price increase) for $6500 + tax. I got this from the Chanel boutique, I didn’t actually check if the Chanel inside Neimans nearby had it… But I was 3 days before the price increase. This was the last medium flap (or so they say) and it had some scratches on the CC and kind of inside. What really “pushed me” is I will probably never pay more than that to get a Chanel bag in the future. Also, knowing Chanel now a days the prices will keep going up. $10k for a Chanel classic flap?? Pass.

If you know anyone traveling to Oregon, it’s best to buy brand names tax free there, esp now that we can’t travel abroad as easily (a lot of countries won’t let non-citizens in). For myself, for anything over $2k USD I need to really LOVE it, which is why I don’t really buy brands outside of LV and Chanel. I always imagined myself to own a Chanel classic flap so I guess I’m just getting it earlier. However, I do find that it’s bigger than my mini bags and I end up not grabbing it bc I’m not going anywhere fancy these days (lol). Chanel has been doing more frequent price increases (one or twice a year) the past 2-3 years. Previously they did price increases every 2 years, which isn’t too bad. In my opinion they are trying to price out a certain income level so their bags are less commonplace.

In case anyone is wondering, I do not currently pay rent, but 15% of my after tax/401k salary does support my parents. All my makeup/skincare/bags are paid for myself, unfortunately my parents are not well off and require support from me… But also at the end of the day, your money goes towards things you’re passionate and interested in, as long as you can support yourself I don’t think anyone has the right to judge you.

Funny story, I carried my LV Palm Springs mini backpack to a family gathering 1-2 years ago, and my cousin’s aunt (who also loves handbags) “outed” me saying “omg where did you find your bag it’s out of stock! It’s like $2k”. To which my parents responded, 😮 😮 :o. I never tell my parents the price of my handbags bc it’s outside the price range they can fathom. I took my mom to Louis Vuitton once to look, and of course most bags are over $1k. She was just like “it’s not worth it” (my parents grew up in a different era and they never made much money).

Would you ever get a Chanel classic flap? I have my eye on a red Chanel bag in the future… Maybe a mini if I can get my hands on it?
